Purposeful Snacking
I receive many client and reader questions about snacks. I find that these questions tend to stem from two different situations.
#1 Snacking when you are truly hungry.
#2 Snacking because you are conditioned to snacking.
Keto Cabbage Enchiladas
Tom was reminiscing about enjoying enchiladas in Mexico.
I had a cabbage sitting in my fridge.
"Steamed cabbage leaves", I thought, "could make decent enchilada wraps!"
Truly, the goodness of enchiladas equals the meat, the sauce and the cheese. Would Tom even miss tortillas?
Vitamin D: Are you Getting Enough?
Vitamin D is an essential hormone; it improves immunity; assists in the absorption of important nutrients; increases feel good hormones; and oversees cell activity by acting on the P53 gene, which identifies damaged cells and assists in their self-destruction.
Our bodies need the sun to make Vitamin D.
Broccoli Hummus
I am in love with the beautiful vegetables coming out of our local Alaskan farms. The midnight sun really sweetens up our produce; the cucumbers, snap peas, kohlrabi and cherry tomatoes taste like candy.
Primal in the Airport
Back in my sugar burning days I would "treat myself" with a soy vanilla latte and a scone to ease the discomfort of long flights. This would usually lead to more sugar cravings and the eventual roller coaster of sugar highs and cranky lows. Combine this emotional situation, with cramped airplane seats, stale cabin air and an inability to move freely, and I was a hot mess.
Now that I understand the biology of what sugar does in my body, I treat myself to nutritious food that provides even energy and mental clarity.
